In keeping with our sustainability goals to minimise our impact on the planet, SIES can provide 24hr surveillance for flying insects, rodents and other species using the latest technology in the form of remote monitoring. For example, fly catch data can be viewed in great detail without visiting the site in person. Alerts are sent to technicians and management when 'fly sticky boards' are full and require changing. Early signs of infestation can be identified and investigated for root causes and corrective action can be carried out. Rodent detection can be provided using motion sensors that send an alert to the technician, quickly identifying species so appropriate action can be taken. The sensors can be remote or installed in live catch traps (legislation applies to live catch trapping). If a pest species is identified, digital traps can be employed to control disease vector pest species. Again, an alert is sent to the technician when a trap has been triggered. N.B. Technology solely cannot replace the technical knowledge of a trained field biologist.
